John Ikuma is a professional Artist/VFX Artist and Animator who’s career has spanned over 20 years in the entertainment industry. His career in Hollywood started when he apprenticed as a sound designer/foley artist on 7 separate award winning primetime animated television shows at the age of 20 years old. He later became a recording engineer where he earned 2 gold records for his work with the band LIVE on the album “Birds of Prey” and work with Nelly Furtado on the album “Folklore”. He changed gears in his late twenties and graduated from the Film Institute of Technology at Musicians Institute as well as graduating from the Film Degree program at the Art Institute of Technology. For many years he was a highly sought after director for marketing videos within the music industry under the company name Penny Royal Films which he later changed to Rocket Space Boy Industries and now focus’s within the animated arts with his Hibagon Animation Studios and as the founder and chief writer at Stop Motion Magazine. John has work on many award winning stop motion productions in Los Angeles at numerous studios. He’s also produced/directed and animated on segments for The Aqua Bats Super Show!. He’s consulted on a number of projects such as Disney’s “Blank: A Vinylmation Love Story” where he supervised the building of the various props, sets, and puppets along with lending his hand as an animator. When John is not working on Stop Motion Magazine or within the field of Television and Film he is either playing music, practicing 3 different martial arts, spending time with his family, animating, or making art for a gallery exhibit.
